Takeout Photo

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 30 October 2026

Summary

Takeout Photo runs on your computer and processes your data there. We (the developer) do not receive, store, or sell your photos, metadata, location data or Google account data. There are no analytics, ads or tracking in the app. This website counts visits with cookieless analytics (see "This website" below) and shows no ads.

Data the app processes locally

The app processes your Google Takeout archives (photos, videos, and their metadata such as dates and GPS coordinates), optional Google Maps Timeline / location-history files you add, and the results it derives (trips, places, thumbnails, AI curation scores). This data is stored only in the app's data folder on your computer; you can delete it any time by deleting that folder or using the app's reset function.

Google user data

If you choose to sign in with Google, the app requests the drive.file scope, which lets it see only the Google Drive files you explicitly pick in Google's file picker (your Takeout archives). It uses this access only to download those archives to your computer for processing. It does not access other files, does not modify, upload or delete anything in your Drive, and does not access Gmail, Contacts, or Google Photos.

An advanced mode lets technical users plug in their own Google Cloud OAuth client with read-only Drive access (drive.readonly); in that case the access goes to their own client and is used the same way.

OAuth tokens are stored only on your computer and are sent only to Google. You can revoke access at any time at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions or by signing out in the app.

Takeout Photo's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Google user data is not transferred to anyone, not used for advertising, not used to train AI models, and not read by humans.

Third-party services the app contacts

The app contacts the following third-party services:

  • Google: sign-in, and downloading the archives you picked or shared a Drive link to.
  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim: to name places, the app sends approximate coordinates — rounded to about 1 km — of places in your photos, without photos or other identifiers. See the OSMF privacy policy.
  • OpenFreeMap: map tiles for the map view; your device requests tiles for the area you view. https://openfreemap.org
  • Hugging Face: one-time download of the open-source AI model used for curation; no user data sent.

These services receive your IP address as part of any internet request.

This website

This is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages. We set no cookies and use no advertising or cross-site trackers.

To count visits we use analiza.dev, a simple analytics service run by the developer. For each page view it records the page address, the referring page, your browser, operating system and device type (from the user agent) and your country (looked up from your IP address). To count unique visitors without cookies it stores a one-way hash of your IP address, user agent and browser language together with the current month, so the same visitor gets a new hash every month; your IP address itself is not stored. The data is used only for aggregate visit statistics and is not shared or sold.

GitHub may log IP addresses for security; see the GitHub General Privacy Statement.

Children

This app and website are not directed at children under 13.

Changes

We will update this page and the effective date when we make changes to our privacy practices.
